Cheikhou Kouyaté has decided to retire from football. The former pillar of the Lions of Teranga leaves behind a career marked by dedication and impact within the national team.
The Senegalese Football Federation paid tribute to him via its Facebook page, praising a "career marked by dedication, leadership, and an unwavering love for the national jersey."
"Thank you for all these years of service and the emotions we shared together. Your name will forever be etched in the history of Senegalese football," stated the governing body of Senegalese football.
With 92 caps and four goals for the national team, Cheikhou Kouyaté participated in numerous major international competitions, including several editions of the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup. He played a key role in Senegal's victory at AFCON 2021, held in Cameroon in January and February 2022. His departure symbolizes the conclusion of a significant chapter in the recent history of the Lions of Teranga.
