The Algerian national team has seriously jeopardized its chances of qualifying for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations after a defeat against its Moroccan counterpart.

The players, led by Hocine El Orfi, managed to keep the score at 0-0 until halftime, allowing them to stay at the top of the standings while awaiting the match between Egypt and Tunisia.

However, everything changed around the hour mark when the Algerians conceded three goals in the span of ten minutes. The first was scored by Bouhoudane following a collective play in the 53rd minute, followed by a second header from Mounssef as goalkeeper Koubi made a risky outing (56th).

Finally, the third was also a header, scored by Hidaoui from a free kick, although there was an uncalled foul against the scorer who brought down an Algerian player marking him (64th).

The Algerians reduced the deficit in the 85th minute thanks to substitute Mohamed Niou with a cross shot from an Aoumeur pass, but it came too late, final score 3-1.

With this victory, Morocco takes the lead with 4 points, the same as Algeria, but in only two matches. We will have to wait for the result of the Egypt-Tunisia match to determine if the Greens maintain second place.

In any case, they will no longer have their destiny in their hands as they are exempt in the final round, which will feature Egypt against Morocco and Tunisia against Libya. Only the two best teams will qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
