Moroccan attorneys are maintaining a countrywide strike, initiated nearly three months ago to contest modifications to their profession which they claim compromise their autonomy.
The amendments, supported by Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi and approved by parliament in May, impact the education of lawyers, financial oversight, and management of legal practices.
"We are implementing a total boycott of professional services. This decision is still in effect. The Executive Board of the Moroccan Bar Association reaffirmed it today and has arranged a meeting for 20 September 2026," stated Me El Houssain Iziani, President of the Bar Associations of Morocco.
The reforms were enacted in August despite the lawyers' persistent protests and strike actions.
"Any government that arises from the elections that reaches out to us for a resolution to this issue and crisis will find us willing to collaborate for a suitable solution. This law has resulted in dysfunction, tragedies, and harm," Iziani remarked.
The strike has impeded court operations, leading to delays in case processing and hindering many citizens from lodging legal complaints.
